Is your dog behaving differently these days? Is he experiencing a loss of appetite or is he less active? If so, it’s possible man’s best friend could be experiencing some dog pain. Animals as a general rule are very good in hiding their condition and rather than wincing in pain, they just stay put.

All concerned dog owners should be proactive about looking for certain symptoms and things just out of the ordinary . It can be a simple wound, cut, or infection. Your dog might’ve hurt its limbs while running or may have gotten into a fight with another dog. Whatever it is, it’s important you find out what the cause of the pain. The pain may actually be caused by a serious health problem. If you’re not able to detect the problem right away, it could become very dangerous for your dog.

As is the case with any pet, you should keep track of your dog’s eating, playing and sleeping habits and visit your local veterinary. For simple cuts, wounds, or sprains, bandages and cold compresses should suffice. After you’ve found out what the problem is, it’s time to think about the dog pain relief options. Some problems are due to joint pain and inflammation.

Arthritis can occur to older dogs and younger dogs as well. If your dog has arthritis, it’s probably hard to see your dog limping around when you remember how lively it used to be.One way to help your dog until he starts to recover is to give him painkillers. It’s important to understand that pain killers for dogs and humans are totally different. You can get the prescription from your vet and find great deals for the medication online.

Apart from medication, it’s imperative to get plenty of exercise for your dog to keep him in optimum health. Light exercise will help build muscles and lessen the stress on your dog’s joints. Always consult your vet before engaging in any type of exercise for your dog.

.Believe it or not, dog pain relief can be found through acupuncture. Acupuncture promotes blood flow and stimulates the nervous system to fight off pain. In some situations, dog owners may not have to administer a pain killer.

For best results, the best approach is to use a multi pronged treatment. Again, start by finding out the root of your dogs pain. Examine his behavior and movements and make a mental note of all his habits. If it is, then you can follow up with a combination of diet, exercise, medication, and alternative treatments. Using the best approach, your dog can be pain free in no time and get back to his normal day to day activities.

If you thought that separation anxiety only happens in humans, you are incorrect. Separation anxiety can also affect your dog. Fortunately, you can train your dog to get over it.

it is vital for your dog to assert his dominance as the pack leader in any type of dog training. Establishing yourself as the alpha will get rid of most of your dog’s behavioral problems. Dogs who suffer separation anxiety get upset when you leave them alone, mostly because they feel they are the alpha and need to take care of you while you are gone.

Dealing wih dog anxiety.

You also do not want your dog to be very attached to you. The more independent your dog is, the less issues he will have when you leave him alone for a long stretch of time. Have others in the home take on caring and feeding tasks for the dog, so he doesn’t only see you as his sole source of love and attention. In addition, do not make it a big deal every time you leave the house or arrive home.

It is important to utilize positive reinforcement methods so your dog can learn that it is not bad when he is alone. You need to reward good behavior and ignore his bad behavior. A good example would be for you to make your dog stay in the room, while you walk out of the room. If he stays sitting there when you leave and come back into the room, give him a treat and healthy rub on the head. He will learn that it is okay for him to be in one place and you in another.

Consistency is important, so practice this technique regularly during the day, going further and further away from your dog each time and taking longer and longer to return to your dog. Make sure to always reward him upon your return if he has stayed in place and waited patiently for you to come back.

if your dog gets up to follow you, take him back and remind him to stay there until you return. Under no circumstances should you punish your dog for not staying and following you as this will impact your training efforts in a negative way.

Whatever training you use, make sure to always utilize positive reinforcement methods.

Lyme disease is a condition which can cause a broad range of problems in your dog. If left untreated, lyme disease in dogs can cause damage to the heart, kidneys, or joints. Most cases of lyme disease occur in the Northeast. However, it can occur in practically any part of the United States. It was first diagnosed in dogs in 1975 in parts of Connecticut but there is now evidence that lyme disease existed for many years in wildlife. Lyme disease can occur in cats but is very rare.

What causes Lyme disease?

Lyme disease is transmitted to a dog via the bite of a tick which is carrying the bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi. This bacterium is not transferred immediately, since the tick has to stay attached for one or two days to your dog.

What are the symptoms?

There is a range of symptoms your dog can develop, once infected with this disease. Most dogs develop a barely noticeable limp in one of the forelegs. As the disease progresses, this limp becomes more and more noticeable. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, fever higher than 103 degrees and swollen lymph nodes.

Diagnosis

The first step in diagnosing your dog with lyme disease is done through a blood test to detect the presence of the bacterium, borrelia burgdorferi.

What treatments are available?

Since lyme disease can cause permanent damage to your dog’s nerves and joints, it is imperative to seek treatment as soon as possible. Depending on the level and severity of the condition, your dog will be treated with the use of antibiotics for at least a few weeks. Aspirin may be administered to dogs who have a lot of joint pain.

What is the Prognosis?

After treatment is administered, most dogs will start feeling much better after a few days. However, lyme disease can re-occur within weeks or months so it’s important to watch your dog closely.

Panosteitis or “Pano” is a bone disease that can affect young, large breed dogs. It is characterized by inflammation near the growth plates in the bone, causing severe pain and leg lameness which can last anywhere from a month to 6 months. The bones of the front leg are most often affected but It can affect the hind legs, front legs or both and the pain can shift from leg to leg. This disease can occur in dogs from the age of 5 months to 2 years but it has also been found in dogs as old as 5 years. Typically, males are more affected than females.

What are the Symptoms?

Symptoms include a sudden, unexplained pain in the legs or pain when the legs are touched; lameness for no apparent reason; lethargic and lack of appetite; vomiting; high fever

Panosteitis can sometimes be referred to as growing pains and wandering leg lameness. This lameness can last from a day to a few weeks and is characterized through switching leg lameness; one leg will heal, after that another may be affected.

This disease is more common in German Shepherd dogs or dogs which are mixed with this breed. Nevertheless, many other factors can be associated with pano: diet, viral illnesses, autoimmune problems, hyperestrogen, as well as vascular problems.

How is it diagnosed?

Diagnosis for Panosteitis is done through xray where it will show an increased density in the cavity of the bone, often near where the vessels enter the bone. Pano can sometimes be difficult to diagnose because the evidence may not be present until 7-10 days after the leg lameness has occurred.

Treatment

Panosteitis is treated with pain medication, exercise restriction and diet. Medication may consist of an anti-inflammatory, non-steroidal drug or NSAID. Some vets may recommend supplementing dogs with glucosamine and vitamin C or an anti-inflammatory drug to keep the dog comfortable.

There are no long-term effects with panoseitis and your dog will return to a playful pup when the pain subsides. Never assume any symptoms are considered Pano and always check with your veterinarian if you have any questions.

Responsible dog owners know that they need to look at the product ingredients when purchasing and feeding their awesome pets. Selecting healthy dog food, can sometimes be a very big challenge. Have you tried reading some of the labels? Many of the ingredients have long names that look like they came straight out of a medical journal. The problem of choosing the right food for your dog can be mind-boggling. Even so, you owe it to your animal to find the most nutritious and wholesome foods.

The the best choice foods for your pet are those which are considered 100 percent human grade. Healthy options exist within this category for most dogs including puppy, adult and senior and throughout a variety of food versions, including dry, canned and treats. There are also products that are made specifically for dogs with special medical conditions, such as joint, kidney, intestinal and arthritis.

Like humans, dogs need much of the same nutrition including vitamins and minerals. It stands to reason then, that you should look for food with much of the same nourishing qualities as you would in your own food (notwithstanding, of course, the occasional junk food that you might indulge in). Some experts believe that one good standard of measure, is to look for ingredients based on the ratio of 40 percent meat, 50 percent vegetables, and 10 percent grains.

Many dog owners believe that some of the illnesses and that plague many dogs come from the kinds of foods they eat, just as is the case with humans. By avoiding the entrapment of chemically altered and processed manufactured foods, dog owners believe they can prevent at least some of the medical issues that would seek to interfere with their best friend’s enjoyment of life. Gourmet dog food that is healthy, wholesome, and nutritious for your pet can, literally, be a life saver. A variety of specialty dog food and recipes that can be prepared by you are available to satisfy healthy dog food requirements.

The bulk of commercial dog food is created with low-quality fillers that enables the manufacturer to get more products for the dollar, but that doesn’t necessarily provide the best ingredients for your dog’s food. To give your dog the best quality of life, ensure that you make the best choices for foods that are healthy for your pet. Your dog will love you all the more for it.

Dog arthritis generally occurs to large dog breeds and senior dogs. It is a canine disease characterized by a pain in the joints. In cases where your dog has arthritis, you will observe a drastic change in his physical activities. He will be reluctant and fatigued to move, jump or play and is lagging behind on walks. Your dog will also yelp in pain when touched.

If your own dog is suffering because of arthritis or hip dysplasia, there are several treatment options that you can do to address the problem, which range from dietary supplements to dog pain relief medications. Whatever method you choose, please make sure to consult your veterinarian first to determine which treatment method is best for your dog.

Most dogs with arthritis that experience intense pain usually require anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin and carprofen to address the pain. These types of drugs are effective at reducing pain and inflammation and are used during the first few days of beginning a glucosamine regimen. Though these medicines don’t have the ability to remodel the joint, they can lessen the inflammation at the nerve endings so that the dog remains comfortable.

Certain medications such as steroids prednisone, dexamethasone, and anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed to minimize swelling of joints. There are also nutritional supplements that you can give to your k9 to boost his immune system against complications related to arthritis.

Besides the medical treatment, dogs with arthritis should also be under careful and intensive veterinary care, as well as proper food intake. Changing your dog’s diet also is also important in dog arthritis treatment. It is very essential that your dog maintains the correct weight for his age and always eats well-balanced diet with the necessary nutrients. You must control the weight of your dog by limiting snacks and foods that can worsen the inflammation of joints. Your dog must also gets regular exercise to enhance his strength and metabolism.

Please keep in mind that excess weight or fat in your dog causes more stress in the joints and can make matters worse for dogs with arthrithis. Among large dog breeds, periods of swift growth can result in the formation of dysplasias if the causal genetic makeup is present. In this case, it is a must to to pay attention to your dog’s diet to avoid rapid weight gain.

So, your family pet is suffering and you can’t find the right dog pain medication to help soothe their pain?

As dogs age, many have considerable difficulty with joint pain. This is commonly diagnosed as arthritis. Arthritis is the degeneration and inflammation of a joint.

You may be noticing your dog has little energy now, can’t keep up on walks anymore, and seems overwhelmed by the staircase nowadays. Have you noticed swelling or heat in your dog’s joints, is your dog licking at these areas, and do you see stiffness in his or her movements?

Then it’s time to do something about it, they need your help! The market has plenty of options for your dog’s joint pain. Here are the types of dog pain medication and treatment options available:

PetBounce – All Natural Drops

This product has taken all of the concerns of what WAS available on the market and has created a safe and effective solution. These are drops that are given orally to your dog without the dangerous side effects of chemical drugs. No more forcing pills down your pet. Can you imagine the ease of a couple quick drops?

Weight Loss

Weight loss is beneficial to most all joint pain sufferers (especially since larger dog breeds commonly deal with joint issues). However, if your dog is having trouble with day-to-day activities and is in pain, then this is not the best step to employ just yet.

Pain Relieving Creams and Gels

There are pain relieving gels and creams on the market for joint pain suffering dogs. This type of dog pain medication can be difficult to apply because of your dog’s hair/coat. Also, another downfall is that it may be licked away immediately by your dog. This can cause one of two things or even both. One is that the dog pain medication will no longer relieve any pain because it’s not in place to do its job anymore. And two, this could be very dangerous to your dog due to the ingredients that may be hazardous to ingest.

Pill Form Medication

There are two types of pill-form dog pain medications that people use on their pets that are “pet prescribed” and “over-the-counter human medications”. Sadly, there is not much to contrast between the two types. Both have serious side effects and most commonly cause stomach ulcers in pets. This would be one of the worst possibilities when you’re trying to give your dog his or her quality of life back, nobody would ever want to cause more injury.

Senior Pet Supplies

This is a coping mechanism, not a fix. Some of these products will allow for your dog to carry out certain activities with more assistance. But remember, it will not change the actual problem that your dog is suffering from.

Fits of head shaking or scratching around the head are good indications of a dog ear infection. If an animal is also whining, there is a good probability that the ears are hurting badly.

A foul odor emitting from the dog’s ears is another sign of an infectious condition that is probably caused by bacteria or possibly a yeast infection. Some home remedies might work if the condition is not allowed to go for a long time before being treated. In advanced cases, it is always best to see the vet.

Preventative medicine is always the best policy for these types of problems. Practicing good hygiene and keeping the animal clean is a positive way to keep infections to a minimum. The hair inside the ear should be clipped so it does not tickle and irritate the animal, leading to scratching.

When a dog gets into water, especially creek or river water, infections can set in if its ears are not washed with clean water and dried. Even if a dog has not been in water, its ears should be periodically examined to be sure foreign objects haven’t gotten in that can cause damage or lead to infection.

A water and vinegar mixture will help with a dog ear infection; just mix apple cider or white vinegar in a spray bottle that can be misted directly into the ears. Apply this every other day while the infection is present. The spray is the best way to get the vinegar deep into the ear, but some dogs will take exception to it and it may be necessary to use a cloth applicator.

The healing benefits of vitamin E oil can aid a dog just as well as a human. Use an eyedropper to drip two or three drops in each ear on a daily basis until the infection is gone. After the drops are applied, massage the ear for several minutes to make sure the oil goes deep into the ear.

Similarly, garlic oil can be used by placing drops in the ears. This is a natural antibiotic and it should soothe the ache somewhat.

A warm compress has soothing tendencies too. Soak a cloth in warm water, wring out the excess, and then lay it over the ear opening. Pull the ear over the cloth and gently massage so the water goes down into the ear.

Keep in mind that the dog will not care to have much done to its ears if they are hurting a lot. Try to work with the animal and don’t force the issue, because this can cause a lack of trust and make it even harder to treat the problem. Always be gently with massages and watch the reactions to be sure that the animal doesn’t get disturbed.

A dog ear infection can be traumatic to the animal because it can’t understand why it has the pain. Any pain relief treatment that you do to the ears should be limited to the outer part. Any intrusion deep into the ear might make the hurt worse and cause damage.

Dog arthritis is an ailment that greatly challenges a dogs quality of life because the joint problems that they encounter limits their mobility and disallows them to do certain activities that they used to enjoy like taking walks and being generally active. Dog arthritis is especially common in dog of a large breed.Dog arthritis can set in with age, especially if your pet is over weight, and dog arthritis can result from physical trauma. The pain your pet experience from dog arthritis is due to the breakdown of cartilage surrounding his or her joint that causes extreme discomfort during movement. The same thing happens to human who have arthritis. You may begin to suspect that your dog has dog arthritis if he or she begins to exhibit signs of difficult in jumping or climbing steps. Dog arthritis will also pose as a challenge for your dog to get up from resting and will begin to make your pet reluctant to walk or play . The pain that your dog experience from dog arthritis is comparable to those in human because the cause is pretty much the same. This is why medication for dog arthritis can be similar to those for humans. You will need to check with your vet and work with him on the best medication for your pet dog arthritis. Keep in mind how ever that this medicine can quite costly and some may have side effect on your beloved pet. Its therefore very important to understand and discuss these at side from medication, there are other way that you can help alleviate your pets suffering from dog arthritis. for more info visit http://tinyurl.com/2ypjte

[1] DIET, Feeding your dog a natural diet with high amount of vitamins, minerals and greens [vegetable] essentials for proper formation of healthy bones and tissue provide the building block for a long, healthy life for your dog. Be sure your dog is not overweight it would be preferable to get a dog food that is low fat and low carbohydrate for example, home prepared meals. Dog also require more proteins and calcium than humans do. more info visit http://tinyurl.com/2ypjte

[2] –HEARB, variety of herbs are used at different time for dog arthritis. The one I have seen to be most effective include Devils Claw, used in traditional African medicine, Boswell, Chinese herb are both anti-inflammatory, while alfalfa provide building blocks for the joint.

[3] EXERCISE, exercise is extremely important in keeping an arthritis dog fighting and recovering .if possible take your dog out for several shorter 10- 15 minutes walks each day rather than going for long walk’ Another great strategy is to take your dog swimming they will get the exercise without stressing the joint .A bath rub works well for very small dogs, However , if your dog is landlubber and hates water don’t push the issue, for more info visit http://tinyurl.com/26lwr2

[4] REDUCE EXCESS WEIGHT, Extra-weight on a dog put extra pressure on the joint ,and cause more pains and swelling . Begin by reducing the amount of treats giving ,cut back a bit on food and provide a lower fat diet for your dog o help alleviate the symptoms of arthritis and help your dog to stay comfortable.for more info visit http://tinyurl.com/26v3np

5] APPLY MOIST HEAT, Apply a hot water bottle with warm or use a towel soaked in warm water that’s been wrung out to your dogs aching joint. Moist heat penetrates deeply and provides welcome relief. Do not use a heating pad as it may get too hot for the dog and burn them especially if your has limited mobility- they may not be able to get up and move away from a pad that is too hot.

6] GIVE YOUR DOG A MASSAGE, Don’t we all love to have sore muscle rubbed? Gently rub around the effected joint and massage the surrounding muscle. This gentle kneading and the heat from your hands should ease some of the pain

CONCLUTION; – Our life span as well the length of your dogs life is ultimately determine by how quickly you radicals cause harmful oxidative changes to occur. Therefore what you feed your dog as well as the supplement you choose for your dog are both very important. You are what you eat and that just as important for people as it is for dogs .What you feed your directly affect his health and wellness . The longer and more consistently you give your dog am optimally balance diet the greater his chances are of living a longer healthier life. for more info visit http://tinyurl.com/2ypjte

The disadvantage of being a dog is – dogs cannot express fully whenever they feel pain or in what level of pain they are in. They can just give off hints that they are experiencing such; however, if we are really not that attentive to their feelings, we won’t easily acknowledge that they are anguished. Oftentimes, they are just left in agony. The only solution is to bring your dogs to their veterinarians and have a constant check up as much as possible, so that they can be given prescriptions on dog pain medications.

Mostly, dogs are the most favored pets because of their smartness and faithfulness. They are famously called and considered man’s best friends. They show their complete loyalty especially if they were treated nicely by their owners. And due to that, pet owners become very fond of them, that they eventually don’t notice at all that their pets are growing older, despite of their unchanging appearances. There’s no immediate physical alteration, unlike people. And obviously, if one starts to step on aging, various ailments can also come to them.

As a responsible pet owner, you must be attuned to your pet’s health condition and needs. Obviously, they are incapable of telling that they are suffering from grievances. But because of a dog’s exceptional ability, they can somehow voice out their pain through crying or whimpering. But it is not always advisable to wait for your dogs to exhibit such ability because there are some that shows off their pain until it’s too late. So be very heedful.

One of the most common dog pains is arthritis. Like aging people, dogs experience such disorder too. In order to avoid such ailment, be sure to give your dogs the proper supplements and vitamins to get rid of early pain experience.

Simple acts like running, walking, or getting into the car, or simply letting him rise to greet you can already become extremely painful for your pets. The possibility of personality changes, withdrawal and crabbiness can be seen from your pets.

A good indicator that a dog is in pain is when he has changes in temperament. Your dog may become uneasy and violent when they are in pain. So the best thing to do is to inform your veterinarians so that proper administration of treatments can be given to your suffering dogs.

It is not advisable to diagnose any treatments to your dogs when they are experiencing something not good. There are treatments that can trigger your pet’s hidden allergies. Do not give any medication when you know yourself that you are not an expert at it.

Dog pain should not be taken for granted. If we love them, we should make sure that we give them the best of all we have. As loving pet owners, we normally feel everything they feel especially when they are in pain. We are just lucky to have lived in this modern age as there are dog pain medications that are always available anytime, anywhere – whether it be just near your place or online. Just make sure that before you buy any medication, vet consultation and advice is a better option to take first.

Hip dysplasia is a very common condition in most breeds of dogs. Often larger dogs are more prone to hip dysplasia but it can also occur even in the small and toy breeds. Hip dysplasia is a degenerative condition that usually affects dogs as they age, although some breeds can start showing the symptoms of hip dysplasia at young ages as well.

The hip of the dog works the same as the hip joint in a human. It is a ball and socket joint with the socket attached to the pelvis and the ball part of the joint attached to the femur or thigh bone. Normally the ball and socket fit together properly and there is movement in all directions. There is a ligament and other protective tissues that hold the ball and socket together and keep the joint strong and healthy.

Dogs that develop hip dysplasia have an abnormal growth of the soft tissues around the joint and within the ball and socket mechanism of the hip. This starts when the dogs are very young. The result is that the bones of the hip joint are not in close contact with each other; rather they are separated by the layer of abnormal tissue that has developed in the joint. The constant outward pressure of the joint by this tissue then further leads to a stretching of the ligament that holds the joint together. The result is a separation of the joint known as a subluxation.

Hip dysplasia is a hereditary condition that means that it can only be passed down through breeding. With conscientious breeders having their dogs tested for hip dysplasia before breeding the condition can be controlled. The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) has collected data on various breeds and lines since 1966. This database is the largest in the world and is used by reputable breeders to ensure that the lines that they are crossing have little chance of carrying this genetic condition.

Treatment

Hip dysplasia in dogs is usually first noticed by stiffness and pain with walking. This will often result in dogs having trouble sitting or standing as the joint is flexed and extended. Many owners think that their pet has arthritis when this occurs. A vet can verify hip dysplasia with a physical exam, which will manipulate the joint. The vet can tell be the tension or lack thereof in the muscle and connective tissue around the hip. An X-ray can also be used to verify the condition.

There are several ways to treat hip dysplasia and usually the treatment method will depend on the age of the dog and the cost of the procedure. All the methods that involve surgery are very costly and may not completely cure the problem, depending on the amount of damage that has been done to the bones. Usually younger dogs are more effectively treated with the surgical procedures. Total hip replacements as well as altering of the pelvic bones and even removal of part of the joint or connective tissue are all options.

Non-surgical methods include anti-inflammatory, arthritis medications as well as controlled diet and non-strenuous exercise. Since it is a hereditary condition there is no medication that can control the disease but the damage to the joint and the pain that the dog may be experiencing can be effectively managed for many years with the proper dog pain relief methods.

Heartworm disease is a disease in dogs that develops when a dog is bitten by a mosquito carrying microscopic heartworm larvae of a parasitic worm known as Dirofilaria immitis. As the mosquito feeds on your dog the larvae are deposited within your dog. They enter through the skin, then travel through the bloodstream and eventually settle and grown in the right side of the heart and the arteries of the lungs. Once there the parasites will grow until they reach a length of 10 to 12 inches at maturity. Heartworm disease causes lung disease and heart failure and is often fatal. While easy to prevent, heartworms continue to be a major health problem for dogs throughout the United States.

Find Heartworm Information Here!

Preventing heartworms is as simple as giving your pet a monthly medication containing ivermectin. There are many products on the market that contain ivermectin including chewables and topical treatments. Pet owners can also administer products made with selamectin to prevent heartworm disease, fleas, ticks, earmites and sarcoptic mange all through one monthly topical treatment. These treatments are applied directly to the skin at the base of your dogs neck or between her shoulder blades. These treatments are relatively inexpensive and range in price from $5 – $20 per month depending on the size of your dog. These methods are safe, easy to use and when given on time every month, extremely effective.

Heartworm preventative requires a prescription and none of the preventatives above should be administered without testing your dog beforehand. Veterinarians will give a blood test to your pooch to check for parasites before issuing a prescription. This is important because the medication in these preventatives can cause life-threatening reactions to dogs who already have heartworm disease. If you already take your dog to the Vet for her yearly physical and shots then chances are the Vet is performing a blood test to check for these parasites. That test is all you need for a year long prescription for heartworm preventative. Testing and preventing heartworm could not be easier and is much less expensive than treating your dog for heartworm disease.

If your dog is not currently taking monthly preventative then there are symptoms indicative to heartworms that you can look out for. Dogs may have a frequent and persistent cough, a decrease in energy level, reluctance to exercise, fatigue, decreased appetite and weight loss. Weight loss is often followed by a swollen abdomen caused by a fluid build up in the stomach. Dogs can be infected for years before these symptoms show up. The heartworms themselves do not cause symptoms they are a result of the damage they do to the heart and lungs over the course of the infection. As heartworm disease progresses blood flow through diseased lungs to the heart becomes restricted. This is what causes heart failure and death.

Cases of heartworm disease have been reported in every state in the US; however, they are more prevalent in the southeastern portion of the country. This is partly due to the climate in this region and the number of mosquitoes native to the area. Everyone should treat their dog for heartworms because infected dogs can move into the area with new owners or due to displacement from areas struck by natural disasters. While treatment options vary consistent year round protection is the best course of action. Of dogs exposed to the larvae, 100% become infected. Treatments for the disease can be effective in otherwise healthy dogs; however, they are quite costly and can easily extend into the several thousand dollar range. While heartworm prevention is extremely effective, treatment can be painful, dangerous and in some cases, fatal.

Dog shedding can be a big pain in some households, and depending on how disciplined you are about your dog clambering around the furniture the fur mess can be more than expected sometimes, and can get absolutely everywhere.

Stop Dog Shedding Here!

Dog shredding happens as a result of a few different situations, the first and common in all breeds of dogs is to make way for a new shiny coat every now and again, and to get rid of dead hair that is no longer needed. Another cause for shedding is seasonal changes like some breeds are used to in their natural habitat, in theses situation there can be lots of hair being dropped at an almost worrying rate twice a year, but it is actually quite normal for this to happen.

If you are worried about how much hair your dog is loosing, then do some research or go to the vets and find out the different types of dogs that get affected by this seasonal change. In rare cases loosing large amount or fur can be caused by a poor diet and insufficient amounts of vitamins to keep the fur alive. All these can be answered by your local veterinarian.

If you are tired of all this fur and the effects of your dog loosing its coat, keeping your dog well groomed will help to stop the spread of hair and keep your dogs coat healthy at the same time and is always recommended to stop knots or matted hair along with keeping your dog healthier and happier.

To summarise, if you are worried about your dogs shedding and have looked to find the shedding habits of the breed of dog you have then visiting a vet is the best option and they will be able to give you a more in-depth analysis of the situation after an examination of your dog and keep your mind at rest about the health of your dog.

If you are looking for a hypoallergenic dog, you will have many breeds to choose from. From smaller dogs like the Maltese, to larger breeds such as the Greyhound, these dogs tend to shed less, and do not product as much saliva or urine. When researching dog breeds, you should keep in mind not only whether they are hypoallergenic, but also which living conditions they prefer, how they behave around children, and how much care and maintenance they will need. Certain breeds require constant companionship, while other breeds can be left along all day while you are at work.

Smaller hypoallergenic breeds such as the Poodle, Maltese, Labradoodle, and Bishon Frise require much from their owners. Not only do they need companionship, they will also need to be bathed once a month and will also need to be brushed once a day in order to keep knots from developing in their fur. While these dogs have shorter hair and no undercoating, they may not be the best choice if you have small children. Territorial and moody, these dogs will get upset when they are competing with children for your attention.

Small to medium dogs that are hypoallergenic and will behave around children include terriers, greyhounds, and the Mexican hairless. These dogs have short fur or none at all and do not shed as much dander as other breeds. If you live in a small apartment, these dogs are the better choice. They do not need a lot of room to run around in and they do not make too much noise. If you need to leave these dogs for the day while you are working or running errands, they will not be as nervous or scared as other breeds.

Hypoallergenic dogs are usually the smaller breeds, even though greyhounds come in a variety of sizes. Deciding on the breed of dog will depend on your lifestyle and what you expect from a pet. If you already have a pet, you will want to buy a breed that will get along with other pets.

Typically, hypoallergenic dogs will live ten to fifteen years. Many smaller breeds may experience dog health issues during this time, but for the most part, the dogs make great pets for those who do not have children or who do not have to travel for work. Because these dogs are small, they will usually not be able to reach couches, chairs, beds, or other furniture unless you help them up. This will also reduce allergens that can cause an allergy attack.

Having your hypoallergenic dog groomed once every two months or so will not only keep the dog looking its best, but it will also help reduce the amount of allergens. Smaller dogs need to be bathed once a month in order to keep them clean. Over bathing will result in dry skin, so you should ask your veterinarian for instructions on how to bathe small dogs. Maintaining a clean coat and brushing your dog once a day will help reduce the allergens in your home.

Canine parvovirus or parvo is a very contagious virus that affects dogs. The disease is spreading from dog to dog directly or indirectly in contact with their feces. The most affected are the puppies rather than adult dogs. The virus can cause bloody diarrhea. In very young puppies it can infect the heart and lead to death. It can take up to 10 days from exposure until the dog or poppy may show symptoms of infection. Being a very serious disease, some puppies or dogs may not survive even if they were treated for this disease. Without treatment it is very probable that the puppy will not survive. They will die of dehydration.

The problem is that this disease is incurable for the moment, since no available drug can kill it. This disease doesn’t kill the dog directly, acting on the intestines instead, which in turn causes the dehydration, blood infection and the electrolyte imbalance. These are the reasons why dogs die after they contract this disease, so the treatment consists mostly of using medicine that reduces the effects of the conditions mentioned so far. Secondary infections caused by this virus are usually prevented by using antibiotics. In order for the dog to have a chance to survive, the treatment for this disease needs to begin as soon as possible, and the dog needs to be monitored while the treatment is administered. Veterinarians can only help you to treat the symptoms and to try to hydrate the puppy. The only thing that can be done if you dog is sick is to offer support to the systems in his body during the course of the disease and provide pain relief. This can be done administering him fluids, regulating electrolyte levels, controlling body temperature and giving blood transfusions when necessary.

Sometimes, you can administer homeopathic remedies, along with the medicine already prescribed. There are some products out there that are natural and can help the dog. Some examples are the Oregon grape, goldenseal and echinacea, which are found in a lot of these types of remedies. They help the dog’s organism by boosting their immunity, reducing the inflammation, preventing bacterial infections and helping the digestive system. Dog’s who survived the disease are not off the hook. Even if your dog does not have today the parvo disease, they can get it back in a few days.

Because of how dangerous and contagious this disease is, you need to prevent it as much as possible, decreasing the chances that your dog will get it. Getting your dog to the veterinarian for vaccines is the best method of prevention. Always make sure that the dog gets all his shots in time. You can also clean areas that might be contaminated with chlorine mixed with water (use a 1:30 ratio). Use that chlorine bleach to clean all places that came into contact with a dog that has the disease.

Parvaid is an aid medicine for parvo disease. Studies show that if the medication is administered before symptoms of disease show, the dog may not get sick in the end. The dog should defeat the illness in a couple of days from the beginning of treatment. No side effects where noticed. If your dog is pregnant, or has a pancreas or liver disease you shouldn’t administer to it the medicine. Parvaid only contains natural ingredients like: Peppermint, Spearmint, Chamomile, Plantain, Echinacea, Rose, Garlic and other ingredients.

This hard-to-treat disease is highly contagious and the main source of infection is by inhalation during close dog to dog contact. The first signs are: fever, coughing, diarrhea, and vomiting followed by unusual tiredness and lack of appetite. Usually dogs under one year of age suffer from this disease. Survivors often develop nervous system breakdown later in life. It is important to provide your dog with the proper pain relief.

CANINE TRACHEOBRONCHITIS (Canine/Kennel Cough). Caused by various airborne bacteria and viruses, this infectious bronchitis is a contagious upper respiratory disease which occurs when dogs are in close contact. Signs are a distressing dry cough, tiredness and loss of appetite and moderately raised temperature. This disease may lead to pneumonia.

RABIES. An incurable, viral disease that attacks the central nervous system of almost all mammals including humans. This disease can be transmitted through bites, while the saliva is in contact with the skin. Once you have this disease, there is no cure and would already lead to death. Vaccine during the twelfth week is a great ounce of prevention.

INFECTIOUS CANINE HEPATITIS. This is caused by Canine Adenovirus Type I. Liver is the attacked organ and can be rapidly fatal. Transmission is through secretions like saliva, infected urine or feces. Early symptoms are general discomfort and lack of appetite, high temperature, pale gums, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. This can cause also liver failure, clouding of cornea known as "blue eye" and breathing problems.

Other vaccinations that need booster recommendations from your veterinarian are as follows: LEPTOSPIROSIS, a bacterial disease which attacks the kidneys and the liver; vaccines are due on the twelfth to fifteenth week of your dog; CANINE CORONAVIRUS, which attacks the intestinal system; and, Lyme Disease, transmitted by ticks to both dogs and humans which results in chronic arthritis and, sometimes, death.

It is important to consult your veterinarian to determine the appropriate vaccination and schedule for your dog. Recommendations on what vaccines to give may vary on the age, breed and health condition of the dog, susceptibility and risk, type of vaccine and the geographical setting.

Issues on vaccines having side effects are lurking but the benefits outweigh tremendously the danger of having it. Effectivity may not be guaranteed 100% but with the combination of proper nutrition and eating habits, a good and sanitized environment, vaccination is a great way to protect your dog and other of your pets as well. Dogs is a major status symbol in American pet-keeping. Every year, over 12 billion dollars have been spent on dog food and veterinary care alone. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association’s 2003-2004 Pet Owners’ Survey, more than half of dog owners purchase toys for their dogs.

Playing with toys is not the monopoly of little kids but also pets of different kind. Dogs have their own sets of toys to enjoy during their playing time.

Dogs benefit from these toys, health and training wise. There are dog toys that can strengthen their teeth or build their intelligence especially if they also attend a series of training classes with the experts. Like man, dogs are very sociable. Interaction with their companion or a sibling dog is very important in avoiding behavioral problems in the future.

When buying toys, you may want to match them with your dog’s needs, demands and even personality. Is your dog the type that enjoys chasing and retrieving games, or chewing, sitting and sprawling? You may want to try experimenting first to find out which toys make your dogs the happiest.

Before going on a toy hunt, take a look at this list of toys that may help you identify the right kind of toy for your dog. CHEW TOYS. These are perfect for the dog that likes to chew a lot. Instead of your dog chewing your furniture, why not buy these TOUGH little babies for them. These types of dog toy are usually made of nylon or latex rubber. The "King Kong Toys" are among the popular brands of chew toys. You can experiment by stuffing these toys with peanut butter or cheese spread, freeze them and give them to your dog for hours of licking and chewing fun.

WOOF WOOF!! BOW WOW!! Oops sorry! I did not realize I was talking to you guys and not my friend Rusty. Hi, I am Bruno, the Labrador. I am 5 years old. It seems my dad and mom are quite busy these days with work and things that seem to never get done. Initially the whole family was crazy about me. They used to take me for walks and runs. They used to show me off to neighbors and friends.

As I grew older and they got busier, all this stopped. Now they hardly even have the time to take me for a walk. They fill my plate with fattening treats and stuff from the table that they eat. I’ve started putting on weight in my waist and hips. Earlier, I could sit back on my legs. Now, due to my weight, I slouch to the side. My chest hurts now and I have a hard time breathing too. My owners no longer take care of the quality of my food. They just get any dog food and pay no attention to the nutrients. Most of the dog foods are laden with fat and as a result I have developed lots of fatty tissues in my body. It is harder to walk these days as my legs ache from the extra pounds. I get out of breathe so easily now. My chances for disease are now increased as a result of the obesity. I wanted to help you learn to take care of your pets so that they will remain healthy, agile and have long lives.

Although fat dogs may seem cute, there could be a host of issues going on. Joint or locomotion difficulties, extra pounds put added stress on joints, bones, ligaments and muscles. Heart and respiratory disease, heart and lungs have to work harder to provide adequate oxygen and circulation. Also, extra fat in the chest cavity and around the heart muscle can decrease the efficiency of the heart and lungs. Diabetes, just like people, diabetes is much more common in obese dogs and cats. Liver disease, obese animals are prone to liver disease. Heat intolerance, excessive fat has insulating properties that makes obese animals uncomfortable and unable to tolerate heat. Skin problems, overweight animals often have trouble grooming themselves. The rolls of skin built up by fat deposits can often harbor dirt, bacteria and other harmful organisms. Gastrointestinal disorder, Pancreatitis is seen all too often in obese dogs. This condition can cause dog pain and is life threatening.

Find More Healthy Information for your Dog Here!

Here are a few ways in which you can care for your dog so that they have a longer and better life:

1. Don’t let your dog become a couch potato. Take him out for a run everyday at least for 20 minutes otherwise he will put on weight.

2. Pay attention to the diet: Sometimes the printed dog food labels do not tell the entire story. Make sure that your canine friend has a diet rich in meat, vegetables and healthy ingredients. If you have started a weight loss food for dogs, make sure it is healthy. Don’t sacrifice nutrition at a time when the dog needs it the most as the weight comes off.

Dog allergies are fairly common and can be the cause of dry, itchy skin. If your dog is scratching a lot, he could be suffering from environmental allergens like pollen and dust, or even from inflammation caused by flea bites. Another source of itching could be the shampoo or grooming products used on your pooch.

Relieve Dog Itch Now!!!

This is because a dog’s skin is ten times more sensitive his caretaker’s. This makes them highly susceptible to the irritants found in their surroundings.

Getting to the heart of the matter may take a multi-pronged approach due to the numerous causes for canine itching. Making time to do this however, will be essential in diagnosing and subsequently curing your dog’s skin ailment.

Proper Grooming

While dogs often run away from the dreaded bath or flea dip, most do not mind being brushed. This is because loving pet parents who know what they’re doing can make it an enjoyable experience. With the proper products, habitual grooming may even make a dogs skin healthier. Keeping the skin healthy is one significant way to keep itchiness to a minimum.

If you find you rarely have time to groom (or don’t know how to do it properly) take your doggie to a pro.

Groomers use products that help a dog maintain a healthy coat, which is gained from healthy skin.

Provide a Skin Protective Diet

Just like human beings, dogs may be susceptible to food allergies. Even organic pet food or treats can have ingredients in them that cause the dog’s skin to be dry and flaky.

To uncover the offending item, try changing the foods your pet eats. If and when you find the suspect ingredient, remove it from your pet’s diet. This could in turn alleviate your dog’s dry itch.

Also, be sure to scan future purchases to ensure new products are free of this particular allergen.

Bathing and Dipping

Some dog owners may be over washing their pet, which can lead to dryness, especially if the products being used are chemically based. This is due to the fact that many chemicals found in maintenance products can be extremely harsh to a dog’s skin. However, even with organic pet products, over washing is not a good idea.

Washing once a month is always best.

If fleas are the cause of the itching, then a dip could be the solution. Taking your pet to the vet would be the best course of action, but if you insist on doing the dip yourself, look into organic products that won’t irritate the dog’s skin further. As a matter of fact, if your pet suffers from chronic dry, itchy skin, you should look into an organic line of grooming and maintenance product anyway.

Remember to use lukewarm water when bathing your pet as well and towel dry your dog as opposed to blow drying him or her. These all important steps will continue to keep the skin from over-drying.

When to visit the vet

Realistically speaking, your dog itchiness can be a reaction to any number of things, including the mange. If you have tried to figure out the source of your dog’s condition and come up empty, it may be time to take them to the veterinarian.

A vet can do a ton of diagnostics that will aid them in determining the factors that are contributing to the skin problem.

They will also be able to employ a variety of solutions, like steroid injections, topical or oral cortisone and/or antihistamines.

Once you uncover what is behind your dog itchy skin, you can take the steps necessary to protect them. The health and pain relief of your dog could very well depend on what you do to improve the quality of life of your loyal and adoring companion. This is worth all the effort.

While basic grooming is the main key to cleanliness, sometimes it is not enough: especially for dogs. Like humans, dogs can get suffer in the hygiene department even with the best grooming policies. Dog dandruff is an annoyance some pet owners cannot seem to dismiss, no matter how extensive or expensive the treatment turns out to be.

Find an Easy Way to Treat Your Dogs Dandruff!

Thankfully, there is a simple [and inexpensive!] natural home remedy to treat dandruff and give them pain relief: a simple combination lemon juice mixed with vinegar. It’s true, vinegar dogs are not the best smelling dogs in the world, but thankfully, if the mixture is allowed to set in for only 5 minutes, you can wash your dog with the best smelling shampoo while still fighting that pesky dandruff and removing the pungent smell of vinegar. The execution is fairly simple and not very time consuming.

Get your dog wet, then get your lemon juice and vinegar mixture ready. The amount needed is dependent on the size of the dog, so guess according to your pet size. In this case, less is not always more, so make sure you have enough to cover the entire dog’s hairy body. Simply deep rub the mixture into your dog’s hair and let it set in for 5 minutes. Beware of the smell! Make sure to keep the dog isolated in the washing vessel being used so the mixture isn’t spread throughout.

After 5 minutes, rinse the mixture out and let it set for 2 more minutes. After the two minutes, feel free to re-wash the dog with any flowery-scented shampoo you like. Let the dog naturally dry, preferably outdoors, and all your dog dandruff problems were just mixed away! Your dog will be happy and carefree without dandruff there to cause problems, simply because of an inexpensive home remedy. Sadly, it has not been tested on human hair as of yet, so experiment on your own hair at your own risk.

Fleas are parasites that feed off your dog’s blood. Flea eggs can be found almost everywhere – in your couch, carpet, etc. so the likelihood of infection is very high. To know if your dog has fleas, look for flea excrement – small, dark, curly dots that are also known as "flea dirt."

To do this, brush your pet’s coat with a white cloth or sheet and look for these black specks, which contains digested blood that looks reddish brown when wet. If your dog has a darker coat, eggs that resemble dandruff is visible when a magnifying glass is used.

Besides really annoying your dog, fleas can also cause an allergic reaction called flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) which leads to hair loss, skin inflammation and irritation. For severe cases, your pet can experience anemia due to blood loss. This can be fatal if your pet is young or debilitated. Also, fleas are carriers of common tapeworms, which can cause cramping and gas.

Putting flea powder on your vacuum cleaner will exterminate all the fleas inside the bag. Monthly topicals is an easy and inexpensive approach to protect your house from fleas. Bio Spot or Frontline Plus are recommended topical brands available. You might also want to build a doghouse or spot for your dog that is elevated since fleas can’t jump higher than a foot. Water is a flea’s top enemy, so wash the areas that a dog might run around – like your backyard. Minimal contact with grasses and woods will lessen the possibility of infection. If you have a garden, trim leaves and clear brushes, as well as grassy and kennel areas.

If you have a home grooming kit for your dog, it is best to include a flea comb. Use it regularly on your pet. Its soft, fine bristles, it will catch the flea. Start combing around the hindquarters and the pet’s head, where flea dirt can also be seen. When you trap a flea, immediately put it in soap-water solution. Fleas thrive in warm conditions, that’s why in warmer climates, it is best to give your dog flea products the whole year. Although pupa stages can become dormant in cold climates, increasing the length of its lifespan composed of egg, larva, pupa and adult.

A flea bath is the first step to a parasite-free pet. Be careful in using a flea shampoo because most products are too harsh on puppies. Consult your veterinarian on what to use if your puppy has fleas. It can also relieve irritation and itching. Don’t stop at shampooing because it doesn’t really protect your dog after getting a bath.

One alternative is using flea dips that keep fleas at bay for some time after dipping, but it is not recommended by most veterinarians. The downside is that your dog might eat or swallow these parasites after licking, since a flea dip stays on the dog’s hair coat. Another option is a flea collar. It will only kill all the fleas in the dog’s neck and face – not the whole body. Some also dogs develop a rash when using flea collars. While flea medallions can contaminate the dog’s drinking water, since it hangs loose from the collar.

A good choice is the use of flea sprays and powders – both for your dog and your house, so be careful in reading the instructions to know which is which. Products intended for your home is too strong to use on your pet. Using two or three different flea products at the same time can be toxic for your dog.

If there are numerous fleas that infested your dog, it is recommended that you treat your home too. Methoprene and fenoxycarb, two active ingredients contained in flea sprays are efficient and safe. It stops the growth of eggs into adult fleas. As mentioned, sprays are too strong for dogs, so take them outside for a walk when you treat your home. Some products are designed to destroy adult fleas – one product is Insect Growth Regulators (IGR) can help kill flea eggs and larvae. Before applying such products, vacuum your carpet or furniture first to rouse eggs and larvae from their cocoons.

Veterinarians recommend these products to for flea control: Pyriproxyfen (Nylor, Archer), Imidacloprid (Advantage), Lufenuron (Program), Fipronil (Frontline Top Spot), Cythioate (Proban), and Fenthion (Pro-Spot).

While every dog is an individual, a few age-related maladies seem to strike many of them. You should of course discuss how they affect your dog – and the best approach to treating them – with your veterinarian, but knowing a little bit about what you’re dealing with before you go in is helpful.

Here are a few old-dog problems, along with some things you can do to help:

1. Stiffness: Your veterinarian can help you determine if the stiffness is because of temporary muscle soreness – say from overdoing it – or the onset of arthritis. Many dogs are worse in cold weather and first thing in the morning. Arthritis is common in older dogs, and while no cure exists, treatments are available that can make your pet’s life comfortable. Your veterinarian may prescribe buffered aspirin, food supplements, or anti-inflammatory medications, all of which your pet may need to take for the rest of her life. For your part, you need to be sure that your pet is not overweight and is kept consistently, but not strenuously, active.

2. Decline of the senses: Deaf and blind dogs do just fine, as long as you do your part to keep them out of any danger their disabilities may cause. Blindness, in particular, is a problem dogs adjust to with an ease that stuns their owners. But consider the following: Dogs don’t have to read the newspaper, they don’t care about TV, and they count on you to read the ingredients label on a bag of kibble. Sight isn’t their primary sense anyway; they put much greater stock in their sense of smell. After they learn the layout of the land, they rarely bump into things (as long as you don’t keep moving the furniture). Handicapped pets should never be allowed off-leash on walks, because they can’t see danger and cannot hear your warnings.

Even if your older dog is blind, there may be something that you can do. Ask your veterinarian for a referral to a specialist like a veterinary ophthalmologist. Problems such as cataracts may be treatable with medications and surgery.

3. Incontinence: There are many inquiries all of the time from frustrated owners wondering why their older dogs are no longer house-trained – and how they can get them back on track. The first rule of any sudden-onset behavior problem is to make sure that it’s not a health problem, and we can think of no case where this rule is more true than with an older dog who’s suddenly urinating in the house. Your pet could have an infection or, if she’s an older spayed female, she may be suffering from the loss of muscle tone related to a decrease in her hormone levels. Both are treatable; see your veterinarian. At a certain age, a little dribbling of urine is practically inevitable, especially while your older dog is sleeping.

4. Lumps and bumps: Benign fatty tumors are common in older dogs, and the vast majority are nothing to worry about. Benign tumors are round and soft, with well-defined edges. You can usually get your fingers nearly around them, and they don’t seem well-anchored. Showing them to your veterinarian for a more complete evaluation is important, and you should inform her of any changes in size or shape, especially if they happen rapidly. Your veterinarian may be concerned enough about the size, appearance, or location of a mass to suggest its removal and a biopsy; most bumps, however, are left alone. The best time to check for lumps and bumps? During regular grooming, weekly, at least. Run your hand over every inch of your dog, and don’t forget to talk sweetly – she’ll think it’s petting.

Like people, dogs are vulnerable and prone to unhealthy conditions like diarrhea. Dog diarrhea is one of the most common issues pertaining to health. It can affect your dog at any chances and because of its prevalence, oftentimes this type of illness is considered not at all serious. But to some, especially to those who take high regard to their pet’s health, become somewhat worried. They eventually seek the help of a veterinarian and ask for some dog diarrhea medications that are apt for their pet’s condition.

Dog diarrhea, even if considered widespread, does not easily affect your dog if proper care measures in pet keeping are observed. However, this case is caused by various things. One main reason is giving inappropriate amount or type of food to your beloved dogs. As a pet owner, you should be very keen and careful in choosing the kind of food to be fed to your pet. Just like people, dogs have sensitive appetites. Their appetites also need to be given the right kind and amount of food every time. Well, there are cases that it is not the pet owners who wrongly feed their pets. It is the pets themselves that take in foods or anything that arouses their curiosity (very many like children). So be sure to take a closer look at your pets especially when they are outside the house.

Another possible cause is the result of vaccinations given to them. This is mostly due to the reactions of the vaccinations. Although considered normal, don’t just ignore when this happens.

Moreover, parasites and other types of viruses or worms can also trigger your dog’s stomach. These parasites easily transmit to the body when your dogs interact with the environment. Just like food, you should take heed in setting out your dogs outside. Be extra careful always.

A dog’s emotion can also make their stomach upset. They are really a lot like people. Due to excitement and nervousness especially when they are brought away from home, they have the possibility to experience diarrhea. But basically, this kind of diarrhea won’t last long because it is just only a result of too much pressure on their emotions.

How to recognize if your dog is experiencing this? If you see that your dog vomits, which is not a normal act of a healthy dog, then it is positively suffering from diarrhea. Like people, they also bowel unconditionally. This is due to the unwanted pressure in their digestive system.

Is it okay even if you won’t bring your dog to its vet? Well in most cases, it is. But if the situation gets worse even if ample dog diarrhea medication has already been given, then it is more advisable to bring your dog to his veterinarian for a thorough check up.

Taking care of dogs is just like taking care of kids. Sometimes because of their hyper sensitivity and hyper ability, they become more prone to infections and illnesses. Even if proper care is given, it is not 100% sure that your dog can’t be inflicted at any chance with diseases like dog diarrhea. Nevertheless, there’s no reason at all for us to fret about this. There are lots of dog diarrhea medications that are available at any pet health stores near your place or even online. You can even buy non-prescription meds for this illness. But bear in mind, if the symptoms still persist, it is better to seek the advice of your vets.

As a new puppy buyer you might be bring home more than you know. Giardia is commonly found in the intestines of many animals, including puppies, and can cause such symptoms as mild recurring diarrhea, soft light yellow colored stools, weight loss, listlessness, mucus in the stool, and can lead to other health risks.

So what is Giardia?

Giardia is microscopic parasites that form cysts. These cysts cling to the surface of the infected dog, or they can float free in the mucous lining and pass from the dog when he eliminates (poops). Once passed, the cysts can survive for several months outside the animal if sufficient moisture is present.

How could my puppy come in contact with these cysts?

If your new puppy shared a kennel with another dog that was infected with Giardia, chances are he ingested the cysts by licking the coat of the infected dog, the floor or surrounding area where the infected dog was kept, or he might have actually ingested the feces that contained the Giardia cysts. Once ingested, the cysts break open, in the new host, thus repeating the infection cycle.

Can my new puppy get Giardia even if he has not been around an infected dog?

Yes. Giardia can also be found in streams or other water sources, and a dog left in unclean conditions can actually re-infect itself causing a vicious cycle.

What type of treatments are available for Giardia?

If you suspect that your new puppy may have Giardia, it is always best to schedule a visit to your veterinary clinic. Be prepared for your visit by collecting a fecal sample to take with you. Using the sample you supply, your vet can perform the necessary tests to determine if your dog actually has Giardia, or some other disorder. If Giardia is diagnosed, some of the treatments available today include; Metronidazole (Flagyl), Furazolidone (Neftin), Tinadazole, Fenbendazole (Panacur), and Albendazole (Valbanzen). Your vet will prescribe the best treatment for your new puppy.

My dog is not infected now, but how can I prevent him from coming in contact with Giardia?

The best way to prevent contact with, and the spread of Giardia, is to be sure your new puppy does not drink from possible contaminated water sources such as; rivers, streams, and or stagnant standing water. Another way to help eliminate the risk of Giardia is to keep your pet away from pets that you don’t know, that could possibly be infected. Popular places like dog parks, dog beaches, and other pet meeting areas can be fun, but is it worth the risk of your puppy’s health?

Being puppy is the cutest stage of a dog, it’s so lovely to see how this little innocent angel moving around, learn to play, eat so well, run around and perform his agilities, and become little cute monster that messes things around. Then we will think about health, petsafe and future. There are still terrible canine over-population problems so it is better to be part of solution rather than to be part of the problem. Responsible owners who want to breed their dogs must pass all required registrations, accreditations, health screening, etc.

A female dog, correctly referred to as a bitch, can only become pregnant if she is bred during her heat cycle. The pregnancy generally lasts about two months or 56 to 69 days from the date of the first breeding, although this period may be slightly shorter or longer. Small breeds may deliver a week earlier while large breeds often deliver later. Over ninety-eight percent of all dogs deliver their puppies without assistance or complications.

For the first three weeks or so of pregnancy, you may not notice any changes in the bitch. Some females will become more demanding for attention, their nipples may enlarge slightly, and some may become hungrier. These are not a guarantee of a pregnancy, but are good signs. Bitches can show the same signs during ‘false pregnancy,’ a hormonal abnormality, which may occur after a bitch has been in heat. Decreased appetite is usually one of the earliest signs that your bitch might be pregnant. Not all females go through this doggie version of "morning sickness", but a small percentage will eat less during the first few weeks of gestation, usually making up for it later in the pregnancy. Further indication is a sudden decrease in activity, the nipple growth is noticeable, breast material will develop beneath the nipples, which will also increase slightly in preparation for eventual milk production.

Behavioral changes such as increase in affectionate behavior or an expressed desire to be left alone. But beware, don’t give any vitamin supplements in the first month of her pregnancy, the birth defects will be develop from too much vitamins A, D and calcium, all she need is high quality diet. No vaccinations should take place during pregnancy, they may harm the fetus. Vaccinations are prior to breeding. Always visit the vet to consult for her condition, from approximate 21-25 days, endocrinological tests detects pregnant dog hormone, relaxin. Puppies hearth beat can be detected after 25 days using ECG but it’s difficult to test their number. X-ray can pick up puppy skeleton from around 49 days and can determine the number of siblings, but X-Ray is not advisable to use because of radiation danger and damage.

In fourth week, the increase in appetite and gaining weight are changes of progress signs of pregnancy, the abdomen will thicken, and gentle examination of the belly will reveal a firm, rather than fat feeling to the area. The bitch should continue to have regular, but not strenuous, exercise to help her maintain her muscle tone and not become overweight. Exercise involves a daily run to make sure all her muscles, including her uterine muscles, are in top condition. She really needs enough sleep on her dog crate, at week 7, it’s advised to increase her meal about 25% and another 25 % on 8th week. Closer to the delivery date, your bitch will probably start to express her nesting instincts, scratching at the floor or in her bed, and displaying signs of increasing restlessness.

During the first stage of labor the cervix begins to dilate and uterine contractions begin. These contractions are painful and perplexing to the dog. She will appear quite uncomfortable and restless – pacing, shivering and panting. She probably will not eat and she may even vomit. Some dogs whine persistently. Others occupy themselves building a nest. Take her temperature rectally twice a day, the normal dog temperature is about 100.3F – 101.3F. It will normally drop to about 98 degrees Fahrenheit, 8 – 24 hours before the onset of labor and she will refuse to eat or drink anything.

During the second stage of labor uterine contractions begin in force. As this stage progresses the placental water sacks break and a straw-colored fluid is passed. Placentas are expelled after each puppy or sporadically during labor. Pups usually appear every half-hour or so after ten to thirty minutes of forceful straining. As the pups deliver, the mother will lick the puppy clean and bite off the umbilical cord. It is important to let the mother do this, if she will, because through this process she bonds with her puppies and learns to recognize them as her own. The rough licking of the mother stimulates the puppies to breathe and improves their circulation.

Petsafe
Using the most advanced technology, Petsafe Bark collars sense when your dog is barking based on sound and vibration.

Ear infection for dogs is a common problem but there is no need to slack off or completely ignore it. Even if it appears to be a simple case of infection, there is a possibility for the infection to develop into a more serious, even life-threatening condition. So take note of tell tale signs of your dog experiencing any form of irritation on its ear.

Before going into details as to how to cure ear infection for dogs, let us first consider how our pets contract this type of infection. Because dogs’ ears are configured in such a way that the parasites and moisture are trapped by the interior canal, they are more prone to allergies and bacteria. Plus, ear wax and bacteria slowly builds up which can cause real damage to your pets’ ears.

As soon as the dog experiences irritation, they tend to scratch the earflap which puts them in a higher risk of attaining more ear damage. Also, it can cause an excessive swelling on the dog’s ear once it failed to be treated. Among the common signs are when your dog scratches their ears more often than usual, or if they rub it against your carpet, furniture or other objects. You may also notice that your dog’s ears are red or swollen, or when they emit a foul smell.

When you have detected the following symptoms or signs for an ear irritation on your dog, it is best to consult with your veterinarian right away. This will help ensure that proper diagnosis and treatment is applied for your dog’s infection. Meanwhile, having your pet examined will also help the vet prescribed the right medication or antibiotics, whether it be topical or oral.

Aside from what your pet doctor has prescribed, you can also follow a handful of home remedies that are effective as well. If the dog’s ear has a pink brownish wax in it, then it could be caused by a yeast infection. To treat that, acetic acid or vinegar as a cleaning agent. You may also put a few drops of olive oil onto the dog’s ear canal to prevent further infestation of ear mites, or an herbal mixture with mineral oil can keep bacteria and fungi from spreading.

Once the ear infection has started, you can give your dog doses of vitamin C to relieve the inflammation inside the ears. If you are unsure how this is done, or is afraid that you might hurt the dog in the process, you can get your vet to do it for you.

Several over the counter medications are also available such as antibiotics and other flea control treatment that your vet would normally prescribe for your pet. However, you must be aware of any side effects that might occur, depending on how the dog reacts on the treatment received. So, you have to be extra careful before choosing oral treatments or drugs for your pet.

No pet owner wants to see their pets suffer; therefore we should take the initiative to care and look after the needs of our pets. Ear infection for dogs is one of those cases that should not be neglected if you do not want to inflict more harm to your pet’s health.

Dogs suffer from various illnesses in a lifetime. Some are bacterial or viral in origin, while some are metabolic. Every disease in dog exhibits certain symptoms. Here is some useful information about the symptoms of a sick dog, which can help you identify the disease.

If you have a cuddly dog, you need to be very careful and alert about its health. It may suffer from various diseases and health problems. The dog can’t explain the symptoms of its illness. Therefore, it’s your responsibility to identify the symptoms of a sick dog and get it treated by a veterinarian and maintain its health.

Common Dog Diseases

A dog may suffer from different ailments, which may be due to certain bacterial or viral infections, metabolic disorders, immune abnormalities, trauma, cancer, genetic factors or degenerative conditions. Some of the common dog diseases are ear infection, skin allergies and infections, chronic kidney failure, cancer/tumor, dental disease, arthritis, urinary infection, stomach inflammation, epilepsy, diabetes, obesity, pancreatitis, food allergy, worm infestation, to name a few.

Symptoms of a Sick Dog

Knowing the disease of your dog is possible only if you are aware of the symptoms of a sick dog. Some of the common indications of a sick dog are lethargy, weakness, lack of appetite, weight loss, disorientation, diarrhea, vomiting, unproductive retching, bloody urine, straining to urinate, bleeding, difficulty in walking, pale mucous membrane, persistent cough and difficulty in breathing. These warning signs are helpful in accurate diagnosis of the disease.

Many dogs when ill do not want to move. They have pain in moving; they may limp and refuse to exercise. All these signs indicate the injured leg or paw. These are the signs of injury or illness. Strong ear smell, discharge and shaking of the head are indicative of mites or yeast infection. Persistent coughing is a sign of kennel cough, heart worm, pneumonia or heart disease. If the dog passes blood in urine, then it may be suffering from urinary tract infection, kidney disease or internal injury. Constipation or defecating problems are indicative of intestinal blockage or a change of diet.

100-103 F is a normal temperature for the adult dogs, while 94-97 F is normal for the puppies. High temperature can be a sign of bacterial or viral infection. Bleeding gums or bad breath along with teeth loss or discolored teeth are the symptoms of periodontal disease. Increased thirst and urination frequency in dog are the symptoms of kidney disease, diabetes or liver disease. If your dog is suffering from the urinating problems, then it may possibly suffer from the kidney disease or kidney stones. Blood or worms in feces are the signs of bowel infection or parasite infestation. If your dog is ingesting grass or other vegetation or it is suffering from vomiting, then it may have the worm infestation or poisoning or gastrointestinal problems.

Itching or scratching can be the symptoms of skin allergies and skin infections. Diarrhea in dog indicates stress, Parvovirus, change in diet or Corona virus. The lumps are indicative of cyst, ulceration or tumor. Lameness in dog is due to injury or canine hip and elbow dysplasia. Pale gums and pale tongue are signs of shock. Watery eyes indicate allergies and in-grown eyelash. Sudden or dramatic weight loss indicates cancer, worm infestation or Cushing’s disease.

The symptoms of a sick dog help you understand the exact health problem of your dog, so that it can be treated earliest. If these symptoms persist for 24 hours or more, then you need to consult a veterinarian immediately in order to get appropriate treatment.
